Case Story: Guiding an AI Startup Through People-Centric Growth

Not long ago, a European AI startup approached me for advice. They were building a next-generation HR AI platform but were struggling to align their product with real-world business needs.

I partnered closely with the CEO, and together we walked through their end-to-end workflow. By asking the right questions and stress-testing their assumptions, we uncovered several critical gaps — from localisation challenges to software fine-tuning — that could make or break their market readiness.

Beyond the product itself, I encouraged them to rethink their go-to-market approach, particularly around partner sales strategy. By re-aligning both the platform development and the commercial plan, the company gained clarity on how to better serve HR leaders in different regions while staying true to their vision.

This experience reminded me of a simple truth: great technology alone isn’t enough — success comes from connecting people, strategy, and execution.

Case Story: Building Leadership for Regional Growth

A leading U.S. multinational sought to accelerate its consumer business across Asia Pacific, including the complex and highly competitive markets of Greater China and Japan. The challenge was clear: they needed a senior leader who could navigate diverse markets, drive regional growth, and align with the company’s global vision.

Partnering closely with the Global Head of Consumer Sales, I conducted an extensive search across multiple industries. We looked beyond the obvious candidates, identifying leaders with both deep market expertise and the agility to thrive in fast-changing environments.

After a rigorous process, I successfully placed their new General Manager for APJC Consumer Business — a transformative hire who has since played a pivotal role in strengthening the company’s regional presence and accelerating growth.

This experience reinforced an insight I bring to every search: the right leader is not just a fit for today’s challenges, but a catalyst for tomorrow’s growth.

Case Story: Solving Talent Acquisition Challenges in the Middle East

A large government-linked company in Abu Dhabi faced a pressing challenge: they needed to attract and relocate top talent from Asia to the Middle East in order to scale their operations. Despite several attempts, the company struggled to hire a capable Talent Acquisition (TA) leader who could build the function and deliver results quickly.

They turned to me for support. Working closely with their leadership team, I assessed the situation and identified a solution: instead of waiting for the “perfect” permanent hire, we placed an experienced TA leader from Asia on a short-term, fractional basis.

This interim leader immediately built out the TA framework, streamlined processes, and accelerated the flow of talent into the Middle East. The result was a functioning TA engine that allowed the company to overcome leadership gaps, strengthen its recruitment capability, and continue scaling without disruption.

This project reinforced a key principle of my work: sometimes the fastest path to transformation is not a permanent hire, but the right leadership at the right time.

Elevating People Leaders to Drive Greater Impact

Case Story: Coaching Talent Acquisition Teams in Japan and Korea

A major U.S. multinational was spending heavily on external recruitment agencies in Japan and Korea, two of the most competitive talent markets in Asia. Despite having internal Talent Acquisition (TA) teams, the company relied on agencies for the majority of their hiring — resulting in high costs and limited internal capability.

I was brought in to coach and upskill the TA teams in both markets. Starting with sourcing strategies, I worked closely with the teams through hands-on coaching and regular check-ins over a 2–3 month period. The focus was not only on technical skills, but also on building confidence, influencing hiring managers, and adopting a proactive talent mindset.

The results were transformative. Within months, the company reduced its reliance on recruitment agencies by 45–50%, leading to a significant drop in cost-per-hire and a stronger, more self-sufficient TA function.

This case reinforced a principle I often share with leaders: investing in your people doesn’t just cut costs — it builds long-term capability and competitive advantage.
